3 Tips to Remember When Drinking Alcohol

So today is National Margarita Day… aka a true holiday in my eyes! Am I the only one around here how loves a good marg!?

Alcohol can be a tricky topic when it comes to nutrition and health. I'm here to tell you that you are allowed to drink alcohol (you're allowed to eat/drink whatever you want #allfoodsfit). Today, I’m going to share 3 tips to remember when your drinking alcohol to prevent yourself from swimming in sugar.

Side note - as a practitioner with a focus on mental health + eating disorders, I always encourage people to check their reasoning for drinking alcohol. If you feel dependent on alcohol to numb your emotions/pain or feel any other reasons, I recommend that you connect with a therapist to dive more into this. Contact me, and I can connect you with some great therapists!

3 Tips to Remember When Drinking Alcohol

  1. Check your mixer: Lots of pre-made mixers, syrups and juices are packed with added sugar and made from concentrate. Use flavored sparkling water or regular soda water as a mixer, squeeze in some citrus or add a splash of juice. This way, you still have some flavor minus ALL the sugar.

  2. Hydrate: Alcohol can be dehydrating, so if you’re having more than 1 drink - make sure you get some water in between drinks or in addition to your drink.

  3. Mindful choices: Craft beers and wines can be packed with carbs + added sugar, so if these are your drink of choice trying to switch to a lighter beer or a cocktail with sparkling water after enjoying a heavier beer or glass of wine.

But again, with everything that I preach in terms of nutrition + lifestyle, ALL the foods and drinks you enjoy have a place in your lifestyle. What’s important is being mindful about your choices and listening to your body.

And because I love y'all (and in honor of National Margarita Day), I'm going to share my marg recipe with you. If you know me, you know this is a HUGE deal - because this recipe is my pride and joy. So here it goes...
