Honoring Your Body Through Pregnancy with Emily Harland

ABOUT EPISODE

Emily Harland is a Registered Dietitian, working for the past 6 years in various different spaces, and is now super passionate about helping women both pre/post pregnancy with their relationship with food and their bodies. She lives in Nashville with her husband Michael and 1 year old son Micah. These days she is a huge fan of truffle fries, peloton and barre3 workouts, and a good meme. She is known to laugh at all your jokes, so if ya wanna feel funny she’s your girl.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Emily shares how she felt concerned with her food relationship during pregnancy, even though she was in a healthy place for ten years. (4:46)

  • It was easier to accept the body changes during pregnancy because it was about growing a healthy baby and not all about her. (8:38)

  • Instead of paying attention to the media’s messages about losing baby weight postpartum, focus on nourishing your body and listening to what you need. (13:00)

  • How social media and diet culture lie and tell us we have control over the way our body carries and handles after childbirth, but we really don't. (15:50)

  • One of the last things moms should stress about after post partum is managing food and starting intense exercise routines. (20:11)

  • How moms are not only responsible for their own body image, body thoughts and food thoughts, they’re now responsible for a whole other person's. (21:50)

  • The importance of working with dieticians that are focused on pregnancy, following body positive thought leaders, and ignoring toxic images and stories. (27:29)
